How do I get more Google reviews for my shop?

The short answer. Ask every customer, while they are still at your counter, and make leaving a review a single step. Most happy customers never review because nobody asked at the right moment and finding the review box took too long. A direct review link, shared by a plate, a QR code or a WhatsApp message, fixes both.

Why don’t happy customers leave reviews?

Most of them mean to. Then they walk out, the phone goes back in the pocket, and the moment is gone. Leaving a review from a Google Maps listing also takes several steps: find the listing, find the reviews, press “Write a review”. Each step loses people. The problem is rarely that customers are unwilling. It is timing and effort.

When is the best moment to ask?

While the customer is still with you and still pleased. In a café that is the billing counter. In a salon it is where they settle up after the service. In a clinic it is reception on the way out. The same customer asked by text two days later has already moved on to something else.

How do I make leaving a review one step?

Use your direct review link. It opens the star box straight away, instead of your Maps listing. Google gives every Business Profile one under “Ask for reviews”, and the free review link generator finds yours from your Maps link in a few seconds. Then put the link where the customer already is:

  • On the counter. A plate the customer taps with their phone or scans with the camera, while they wait or pay.
  • On WhatsApp. A short thank you with the link, sent after the visit.
  • On paper. As a QR code on the bill, the receipt or your visiting card.
  • On your profiles. In your Instagram bio and your WhatsApp Business profile.

What should I say when I ask?

Something short and neutral, said the same way to everyone. For example: “If you have a minute, a Google review really helps us. You can just tap here.” Avoid “if you were happy” and “five stars please”. Asking only for good reviews is against Google’s rules, and it is the kind of ask customers remember. The exact words in English, Hindi and Marathi, and a card to print, are on the how to ask page.

Should I reply to my Google reviews?

Yes, to the good ones and the bad ones. A short, polite reply shows the next customer that somebody reads them. For a bad review, thank the person, say what you will do about it, and offer to talk directly. The free review reply helper drafts a reply in English, Hindi or Marathi for you to edit.

What should I never do to get reviews?

  • Offer a discount, a freebie or a lucky draw entry in return for a review.
  • Ask only the customers who look happy, or send unhappy ones somewhere else first.
  • Write reviews yourself, or ask staff, friends or family to.
  • Buy reviews, from anyone.

Google removes reviews that break these rules and can act against the listing itself. The full rules, and what review gating is, are in is it allowed to ask for Google reviews.

How long does it take to get more reviews?

It depends on how many customers you see and how many of them you ask. Asking everybody, every day, beats one big push. The free review calculator works out how many 5 star reviews it takes to reach the rating you want, and roughly how long that takes at your pace.
